A. Hello, A well-balanced diet that includes all the food groups allows for optimal growth and development of a four year old. Children this age need 4 to 5 ounces of grains, 1 1/2 cups of vegetables, 1 to 1 1/2 cup of fruits, 2 cups of dairy and 3 to 4 ounces of protein sources like meat or beans daily.
