Give a balanced and nutritious diet to the child
Follow small and frequent meal pattern for the child..
Most important do not force feed the child as it might make him hate food
Include green leafy vegetables, jaggery and things made with it, milk and milk products, dry fruits, ragi, oats, sprouts, eggs , fruits in the diet of the child
Improve the quality of food and not the quantity

you can give dates or dates syrup daily also..
