A. It could be due to thrush. It is an yeast infection caused by an overgrowth of the fungus Candida - it covers baby's lips, tongue and inner cheeks. Thrush can spread to your nipples if you are breastfeeding. If you are able to brush off or wipe a white coating, thrush is not the cause. Contact your doctor who will prescribe a liquid antifungal that you will directly apply to white patches. Let this medicine sir on your baby's tongue or inside their mouth for as long as possible. Give your baby treatments 30 mins before feedings. Gently wipe or brush your baby's tongue after each feeding can help prevent a white tongue caused by milk. Sterilise all equipments used for feedings. Sterilise pacifiers and any toys that baby puts in his/her mouth. If you have thrush on your nipples, prevent recurrent infections by frequently changing your breast pads and washing your breastfeeding bras in hot water.
