Q.

#asktheexpert my son is pooping dry like pebbles. though his mother is not lactating since his birth and we were giving him formula which we stopped after 2 months due to him having same pooping problem. now we are giving him cow milk from provilac and prior to that we used to feed him packed cow milk. I'm mostly concerned about him pooping and often time he farts a lot. please help and suggest some solution.

A. Cow's milk should not be given before the child turns one year old. Babies exposed to cow's milk before 1 year can be anemic, have diarrhoea or vomiting, or experience an allergic reaction as the proteins in cow's milk are more and hence it can overload a baby's kidneys. It is also deficient in Vitamins C, E and copper. It is harder to digest and can often cause intestinal blood loss. You can ask your doctor about an alternative formula milk that can be used for your baby.
