A. It's not uncommon for babies to experience delays in teething, and the timing of when babies get their first teeth can vary widely. Here are some points to consider regarding your son's situation: 1. **Normal Variation**: Teething typically begins around 6 months of age but can start as early as 3 months or as late as 14 months. Some babies may not have any teeth until well after their first birthday, and this variation is usually within the normal range. 2. **Family History**: If other family members experienced late teething, it might be a contributing factor to your son's delayed teething. 3. **Development Milestones**: If your son is otherwise meeting other developmental milestones, such as crawling, babbling, and starting to eat solid foods, the delay in teething alone may not be a cause for concern. 4. **Consulting a Pediatrician**: If you're concerned or if your son shows other signs of delayed development, such as difficulty eating or unusual discomfort, it's a good idea to consult your pediatrician. They can examine your son's gums and provide reassurance or further recommendations based on their evaluation. In most cases, delayed teething is not a significant issue and teeth will eventually erupt. Meanwhile, you can continue to care for your son's gums by gently wiping them with a clean, damp cloth after feedings to maintain oral hygiene.
