Q.

#asktheexpert my son is 6 year old when he laughs or talk much his throat pains and he has dry cough after that.. went to the doctor but the doctor said nothing to worry about.. but I'm concerned because my son wants to laugh play and talk like all others do normally.. but he can't.. what might be wrong with his throat.

A. If your child is old enough to do so, have your child gargle with warm salt water at least once each hour to help reduce swelling and relieve discomfort. Use 1 teaspoon (5 mL) of salt mixed in 1 cup (250 mL) of warm water. Most children can gargle when they are 6 to 8 years old.
