#AskTheExpert my son is 21 months old and he does not imitate when I try to speak ..he says few words like mama, he sings rhymes also but when I ask him to repeat what I say atleast in bits he doesn't ..is there something to worry?

proper language / speech development will start between 18 months of age to 3 years of age.
there is no need to worry before that just concentrate on the diet and regular interaction with the child.
also speech and language develops properly with more people available to interact with the child
avoid usage of tv mobile and laptop because they are the most common reasons for delayed speech and language development.
the most important thing is that before speech, understanding of the commands given by the parents should be present.f
by 18 months if the child is not following basic commanfds then only you have to meet the doctor for speech and development assessment.
requirement of speech therapy will also be discussed by your doctor.

See I will not see exactly what is the issue because I’m not sure but I guess I can only tell you if the child does not do all these things by the age of 16 months or not making an eye contact properly not responding to the stuff that you are saying not understanding them well then there could be a little bit of delay in the growth of the child in this case I can recommend you to get it checked with her child psychologist
