A. If your son has a blocked nose and was unable to sleep the whole night, it can be very uncomfortable for him. Here are some steps you can take to help relieve his congestion and improve his sleep: 1. Saline Nasal Drops: Use saline nasal drops or spray to help loosen the mucus in his nose. You can apply a few drops in each nostril, wait a minute, and then use a bulb syringe or nasal aspirator to gently clear the mucus. 2. Humidifier: Place a humidifier in his room to add moisture to the air. This can help relieve nasal congestion and make it easier for him to breathe. Make sure to clean the humidifier regularly to avoid bacteria buildup. 3. Elevate the Head: When putting him to sleep, elevate his head slightly by using a pillow or raising the head of the crib. This can help reduce nasal congestion and make breathing easier. 4. Steam Inhalation: You can run a hot shower in the bathroom and sit with your son in the steamy room for a few minutes. The steam can help loosen the mucus and provide relief. 5. Warm Fluids: Offer him warm fluids like water, herbal teas, or soups (if age-appropriate), as they can help soothe his throat and thin the mucus. 6. Avoid Irritants: Make sure his room is free from irritants like smoke or strong fragrances, which can worsen congestion. If his congestion persists or worsens, or if he has a fever, difficulty breathing, or a cough, it's best to consult a pediatrician. They can assess whether further treatment, such as medications or additional tests, is needed.
