Oral Thrush (Candidiasis): A fungal infection caused by yeast, often seen in babies and young children. It appears as white patches on the tongue, gums, or inside the cheeks. This may need antifungal treatment prescribed by a doctor.
Milk residue: If your child is still breastfeeding or formula feeding, sometimes milk can leave a white coating on the tongue. This usually goes away with normal cleaning.
Mouth ulcers: Sometimes, children develop small, painful white spots on their tongue from minor injuries or irritation.
Dehydration or dry mouth: A dry mouth can lead to a white coating on the tongue.
What to do: Clean the tongue: Gently wipe her tongue with a soft, clean cloth or use a baby toothbrush to remove any residue. Monitor her symptoms: If the white spot doesn't go away or if there are other symptoms like fever, irritability, or difficulty feeding, it may be worth seeing a doctor. Keep her hydrated: Ensure she’s drinking enough fluids, especially if dehydration is a concern.
If the white spot persists for more than a few days, or if your child is having difficulty eating or drinking, it’s best to consult a pediatrician for an accurate diagnosis and treatment.
