A. When your 4.5-year-old baby has a fever, here are some steps you can follow to help manage the situation: 1. Monitor the Temperature: Use a digital thermometer to check their temperature regularly. A fever is generally considered when the temperature exceeds 100.4°F (38°C). 2. Stay Hydrated: Make sure your child drinks plenty of fluids, like water, coconut water, or oral rehydration solutions (ORS), to stay hydrated and prevent dehydration. 3. Dress Comfortably: Keep your child in lightweight clothing and ensure the room is at a comfortable temperature. Avoid bundling them up too much, as this can raise their body temperature further. 4. Use Fever-Reducing Medication: If the fever is high or causing discomfort, you can give your child fever-reducing medications like paracetamol (acetaminophen) or ibuprofen, but only after consulting with a pediatrician regarding the correct dosage for their age and weight. 5. Rest: Encourage your child to rest as much as possible. Fever is a sign that the body is fighting an infection, so adequate rest helps with recovery. 6. Watch for Additional Symptoms: If your child has other symptoms like a persistent cough, rash, trouble breathing, vomiting, or if the fever lasts for more than 3 days, it's important to consult a doctor. 7. Seek Medical Advice: If you're concerned about the fever or if it spikes above 104°F (40°C), or if your child seems unusually drowsy, lethargic, or in pain, seek medical attention immediately. Fever in children is often a sign of infection, such as a cold, flu, or another viral infection, but it can also be due to other causes. Keeping your baby comfortable and consulting a pediatrician will help ensure proper care.
