POOJA KOTHARIMom of a 8 yr 5 m old boy4 months agoA. If your baby is passing stool with blood for the past two days, do not give any medicine without a pediatrician’s advice. Blood in stool can be due to several reasons like:
A small anal tear (fissure) from hard stool Cow's milk protein allergy (if formula-fed) Intestinal infection or bacterial diarrhea
What you should do:
Monitor the baby’s stool pattern, feeding, activity, and temperature. Check if the stool is hard (suggesting constipation) or loose (suggesting infection). Keep the baby well-hydrated (breastfeed or give formula frequently). Do not give antibiotics or anti-diarrheal medications on your own.
Most importantly, please take your baby to a pediatrician immediately for proper diagnosis and treatment. Early medical evaluation is very important when blood is present in the stool.
