Q.

#AskTheExpert my baby is one month 12 days old. The BCG vaccine that was given on the 2nd day of birth, at that place today I observed swelling on that hand and baby is crying. here some are saying that swelling should be immediately after the injection, why now it swelling I mean after one month it is visible.

A. bcg vaccination which is given at birth in the upper arm will form a swelling by one or maximum two fmonths and then it will burst open and then pus will come out from it and after tdhat it will become a scar mark. you have to take medical consultation if it days causing pain fever and discomfort to the child. also if the pus discharge is increasing or aggravating again you have to meet the doctor and locally you can apply t bact cream

A. hello yes this is absolutely normal and nothing to worry and infact this is an indication that the vaccination as reacted to the baby well and is absolutely nothing to worry and this will then leave a scar behind which is normal and absolutely nothing to worry about
