Q.

#asktheexpert my baby is 4 months old. She is not consuming enough breastmilk after I got a fever, but she is fine with formula. How can I improve breast feeding?

A. Let the baby decide the nursing duration and frequency. Offer both breasts in each nursing session. Have a healthy balanced diet and stay well hydrated. That is all you need to generate enough breastmilk for your baby.

A. Any stimulation of the breast — whether milk is coming out at first or not — will tell your body to produce more milk. To induce a full milk supply, you'll want to aim to nurse or pump 8 to 12 times a day, or every 2 to 3 hours, including at least once a night.
