A. It's not uncommon for a 4-month-old baby to show varying feeding patterns, especially if they're starting to become more curious about their surroundings. If your baby is only feeding for five minutes at a time, it could indicate a few things: she may be getting distracted more easily, or she could be filling up quickly with milk and losing interest. Babies also start discovering their hands around this time, so sucking on her fingers could be a sign that she's hungry but may not want to nurse for long periods. To encourage better feeding, try to create a calm and quiet environment during nursing, without distractions. You could also try offering the breast when she shows early hunger cues (like rooting or smacking lips) before she becomes too hungry or upset. If you're concerned about her feeding habits or weight gain, it would be best to consult with your pediatrician to ensure she's getting enough milk and that there are no underlying issues affecting her feeding.
