Q.

#AskTheExpert My baby is 4.5 months old. I've decided to exclusively breast feed her for 6 months and then start on supplementary foods gradually. But my husband and his family are insisting that I should on other foods now itself along with breastfeeding. They are saying it's more healthy that way and apparently my husband's nephew started on supplementary foods when he was 3 months old. Which is better exclusive breastfeeding or start on other foods?

A. It is not recommended to introduce any kind of foods in baby's diet except breastmilk or formula milk tillatleast 5-6 months. Please note, every child is different and comparing one with another is not preferable. You can wait for another 15-20 days to introduce semi solid foods like pureed lentil, mixed vegetable soup, pureed apple and pear, mashed banana, khichdi, ragi and sooji porridge, etc.
