POOJA KOTHARIMom of a 8 yr 5 m old boy5 months agoA. If your baby has extreme cough and congestion, Azithromycin (an antibiotic) and Mucolite (a mucolytic) should only be given if prescribed by a doctor, especially for infants. Azithromycin is used for bacterial infections, but most coughs in babies are due to viral infections, allergies, or seasonal changes, where antibiotics may not help. Mucolite can help loosen mucus, but it should be given only in the recommended dose.
What You Can Do at Home:
✔ Steam Inhalation – Sit in a steamy bathroom for a few minutes to loosen mucus.
✔ Saline Drops & Nasal Suction – Clear nasal congestion with saline drops.
✔ Breastfeeding/Fluids – Keep your baby hydrated for faster recovery.
✔ Elevate Head – Keep the baby’s head slightly elevated to ease breathing.
If your baby's cough worsens, has breathing difficulty, fever, or refuses feeds, consult a pediatrician immediately for the right treatment. Let me know if you need more guidance!
