Q.

#AskTheExpert my baby boy is 3 months and 12 days old with 6.5 kg weight. when he was 86 days old he didn't passed stool for 8 days so we went to his doc and he suggested a glycerine suppository due to which he passed the stool immediately after keeping it and that too in large quantity..now in last 25 days he have passed stool only 6 times out of which I kept suppository four times...he is properly feeding and urinating...the thing is can I go ahead and keep on putting glycerine suppository after every 4-5 days cos he becomes very fussy after 3-4 days without any motion....

A. if the consistency of the stool is hard then only you have to consider constipation in less than 6 months of age it is totally normal for small children less than 6 months of age not to pass stool for 10 days also. it is also normal if they are passing stool more than 6 or 7 times per day. if the consistency of the stool is Semi solid to solid there is no need to worry about the frequency as well as the colour (the colour can range from yellow brown green to black) of the stool. also straining while passing urine and stool is normal. Do burping for 15 to 20 minutes
