#asktheexpert my 5yrs 9 months old daughter suffering high fever from 3 days .....my doctor suggested blood test in that shows negative viral test but CRP shows 76.5 and he is suggestd amoxycilin antibiotic...is it necessary to admit to the hospital?

A. hi dear CRP is an indicator of inflammation. Though high CRP is considered as a marker of bacterial infection, its role is limited to neonatal and paraneonatal period for the same. In case of older children, even with viral infections, CRP may be seen elevated upto 60mg, dl.
