A. Dandruff on a 5-month-old baby's scalp, often called cradle cap, can sometimes cause itching and discomfort. To help relieve it: Gently wash her scalp with a mild baby shampoo 2-3 times a week. After washing, softly massage her scalp with a baby brush or soft cloth to loosen flakes. You can apply a small amount of natural oil (like coconut or olive oil) on the scalp before bath time to help soften the flakes, but don’t leave the oil on too long as it might worsen the dandruff. Keep her scalp clean and dry. Avoid scratching to prevent irritation or infection. If the itching is severe, or the scalp becomes red, swollen, or oozes, consult your pediatrician for appropriate treatment.
