Q.

#AskTheExpert my 5 month old baby has got constipation issue for a while now. Due to my medication doctor had suggested to put her on formula. What should I give her to soothe her pain. She has been trying it from last 5 days. In between she pooped and it had little blood guessing her Anus might have got minor tear due to hardness of the stool. I am unable to reach my doctor and he had suggested a stool softener if the problem persists but I do not know which stool softener to take. Could I get some suggestion?

A. constipation in small babies is quite commonly seen and is more with babies who are fed with formula milk. Usually constipation of few days is considered as normal in babies below 6 months of age,you can give bonnisan drops 3 times a day to your child will and give frequent feeding, usually medicines or suppositories are avoided in such a case .if baby is having gastric pain you can give collicaid drops.give proper tummy time and burping to avoid gastric trouble. In case of severe constipation of aldebove one week you can give suppository but only under medical advice.
