Q.

#AskTheExpert My 2 year (25 month) old is saying only first syllable of the words. Like he will say 'bah' for bus, ball and also bubbles. He is attempting 2 words phrases also but it's also like in first syllable format like "gee bah" for give ball. is this normal language development?

A. hi yes ,it is . if your child can relate words with objects , can make eye contact while talking , understand what you say well then no need to worry. just keep encouraging your child by talking with him more.

Q. My son is 24 months old. Though babbling was present from 9-10 months, He started talking late.He perhaps said his first meaningful words at maybe at 19-20 months. From then on he has increased his vocab to about 50 words. But I am noticing that he is sticking to saying only the first syllable of the word, like it's "bah" for ball, banana, bat etc, "kah" for car and cat, "dah" for duck and "ah" for apple. He does say other consonant-vowels sound like Bow-bow, or the lion goes "Guurrrrr", "sta" for star, cow, Gua guava) etc. Even for 2 phrase words, it's like "geee bah"(give ball). is this normal ? I am trying to talk to him as much as possible, sing and read books.
