#asktheexpert my 11 month old constantly sucks on her thumb and cries severely when I try to stop her. is there a remedy?

Dr Sameer awadhiyaGuardian of 2 children3 years agoA. Thumb sucking in infants is a very normal phenomenon and its called mouthing reflex and nothing to be worried about it just maintain proper hygiene and with time this thing will goo .
In the toddlers thumb sucking habit is also seen many a times which could be phycological cause and feeling of insecurity or some stress . Just try to make the child comfortable and divert in some activities also spend good time with the child .
In extreme case withdrawal can be tried with some solution available which are bitter like femite lotion . It needs to be applied locally .

Teething Would be happening with your child so try giving more of finger foods to the child and see if this habit changes it could be due to irritation in the gums of your child so you can always start giving calcareous PHOS to your child for tablets three times in a day
