Dr Vandan H KumarFather of a 7 yr 4 m old boy1 Year agoA. It is very common that children less than 6 months of age may not pass stool for sometime 10 days also.
Slight discomfort as well as straining while passing urine and stool is also normal.
You have to just take care of colic pain as well as gas in the abdomen and do not worry about the frequency of the stool if the consistency of the stool is semi solid to solid.
please note that intermittent crying that you see might be due to colic pain and not due to constipation.
straining while passing urine and stool is very normal before completion of 6 months of age.
sometimes this can continue for one year of age also.
it usually occurs due to the distention of the surinary bladder and rectum of the child.
the sensation is new for the child that's why the child is crying
if you feel that the crying is more than normal you should visit a pediatricians for examination.

Pump your baby's legs back and forth as if they're riding a bicycle. Also, put them on their tummies with some toys and encourage them to squirm and reach. Activity can encourage a bowel movement. Give your baby a tummy massage.
