A. If your 4-month-old baby is having loose motions 6 to 7 times a day, it’s important to keep the baby hydrated by continuing breastfeeding or formula feeding frequently. Loose stools can occur due to mild infections, teething, or dietary changes. You can try giving ORS (oral rehydration solution) in small sips if the baby seems dehydrated (less urination, dry mouth, or irritability). If the baby is otherwise active and feeding well, monitor for signs of dehydration, fever, or blood/mucus in stool. If the loose motions continue for more than 24 hours, the baby becomes lethargic, has a high fever, or shows signs of dehydration, consult a pediatrician immediately. Avoid giving any over-the-counter medicines without a doctor’s advice.
