#asktheexpert Is iron drops are mandatory for my 5months old baby as we are not willing to give him medicines in such small age? What will be the alternative for iron drops? Please suggest.

A. no iron tops are not mandatory but if the doctor had described this may be due to some deficiency along with that vitamin d drop is mandatory till one year of age

A. Yes it is necessary, Diagnosis and Prevention of Iron Deficiency and Iron-Deficiency Anemia in Infants and Young Children 0 Through 3 Years, recommends giving breastfed infants 1 mg/kg/day of a liquid iron supplement until iron-containing solid foods are introduced at about six months of age.
