breastfeeding should be stopped gradually for it to be less stressful for you as well as baby
Ensure that the child eats enough; increase number of meals.
Increase interval between breastfeeds. Drop one feed every day per week. Taper over 2-3 mo.
Stop morning breastfeeds first, then afternoon feeds after 2 - 3 weeks. Avoid situations that remind the baby of the breast: other family members and father can help with feeding and putting child to sleep.
The nighttime feeding is usually the last to go. Make a bedtime routine not centered around breastfeeding.
A lot of extra love and attention in other forms will be needed now.
