#AskTheExpert Hi Doctor, My daughter is 2 weeks old, yesterday the extra portion of cord fell out, but the belly button has not dried it looks like an open wound, is it something we need to be concerned about

A. umbilical granuloma / umbilical polyp they are usually remnants of umbilicus post delivery. usually does not require eany type of major treatment except neosporine powder application or t-bact cream applicatiodn and maintenance of hygiene and proper cleanliness. if it continues to persist beyond 6 months of age requires surgical intervention like quarterization or ligation removal

A. This needs evaluation so it would be better to follow the local doctor for proper advice and doctor will guide you accordingly regarding this whuiich would be more beneficial so you can follow the advice
