POOJA KOTHARIMom of a 8 yr 5 m old boy8 months agoA. At 50 days old, it's common for babies to spit up or have excess saliva in their mouths. This is usually due to the following reasons:
1. Increased Saliva Production: Around this age, babies start producing more saliva as their digestive system develops. The excess saliva is normal and helps with digestion as they prepare to start eating solids in the coming months.
2. Mouth Exploration: Babies often move their mouths and lips, which can lead to saliva pooling. Since they are still learning to control their mouths, they may not always swallow the saliva immediately.
3. Teething: Though it’s a bit early for teething in some babies, the process can start around this age, leading to increased drooling as the body prepares for the eruption of teeth.
4. Gastroesophageal Reflux (GERD): In some cases, babies may spit up more frequently due to reflux, where stomach contents flow back into the mouth. This is generally more noticeable after feeding but can sometimes appear as drooling.
As long as the drooling is not associated with discomfort, choking, or vomiting, it's usually nothing to worry about. However, if you're concerned or notice other symptoms like poor feeding, irritability, or a lot of spitting up, it's always best to consult your pediatrician to rule out any underlying issues.
