#asktheexpert Hello Doctor, my son is 20 months old, he understands instructions but barely speaks any words. anything to worry? and how can we work on his speech? thanks

POOJA GOSWAMIMom of a 10 yr 6 m old girl4 years agoA. Babies can take upto 3 years to speak clearly few words and sentences. You can encourage him to speak and not use gestures. Talk to him in small and simple words starting with his toys. Emphasize on few words do that he tries to understand and speak. All family members should speak to him regularly. And if possible, let him mingle with kids of his age this way they learn fast.
