Q.

#asktheexpert Hello Doctor, My daughter is 2 months 25 days old and my concern is she has not passed stool from past 5 days. Usually she passes stool in every 2days. She is in mixed feed. Earlier I used to give her formula after every breastfeed but it's been a week or two I give her formula for 2-3 times in a day if required. She is passing urine, taking feed and also passing gas. Not passing stool for 5 days is a sign of constipation or is normal in babies?

A. It is very normal for small children that sometimes they will not pass stool for 10 days also and sometimes they will pass stool more than 7 to 8 times per day. If the consistency of the stool is Semi solid to semi liquid do not worry about the frequency of the stool. No medicines needs to be given in such a xcase but you have to meet the doctor only if the stool consistency is hard. It is advisable to give only milk to the child and nothing else before completion of 6 months of age. intermittent xcrying of the child is due to colic pain and not due to constipation.
