Q.

#asktheexpert Hello doctor, My daughter is 1yr 6m old but has still not started speaking, not even words like mamma and papa. Though she utters some words which have no meaning. Should I worry about it or is it normal? Also if it's normal then till when should I wait?

A. Not before 2 years of age DEVELOPMENT by the age of 2 years the child should be able to speak few words with meaning in the sentence and should be able to understand all the commands and orders given by the parents and if you feel that they are not present in your child it is important to meet your pediatrician to assess the growth milestones of the child and whether there is any need of therapy or not. If child has good understanding and follows orders and command of the parents properly then do not worry much about speech as will eventually come. Talk more with child. Avoid TV mobile laptop. Involve more people to interact with the child

A. Hi mom Every baby is different in achieving milestones. If ur baby is making eye contact and understand what you are saying, follow ur instructions then no need to worry. Encourage and motivate ur baby to speak.
