Q.

#AskTheExpert Hello Doctor. My baby is having milk only on one side of my breast and he is totally avoiding the other side. I have tried feeding him by not changing position also but nothing worked. Will that be a problem if he continuously take feeding in the same side? will that affect him in gaining weight? But I have enough milk on the same side whenever he asks for. Is it okay if I feed him on one side alone all the time? Please do guide me Doctor. Thank you.

A. Hi Mom, Try to feed both the sides. Feeding both the sides will improve the breast milk production as well. In some cases, a baby will not breastfeed on one because there is a problem with the breast. If your baby is refusing to nurse on one side, talk to your doctor regarding the same. It they can rule out an underlying health problem and your baby is growing at a consistent pace, it's probably fine that they have a preference.
