Let him try to eat on his own. Let him play with the food and make a mess and this is how he will learn to first touch, then play and finally taste the food on his own. Offer his favourite foods along with the new foods that you want to introduce in his diet. Praise him even if he finishes only a small part of the meal. Let him be a part of meal preparations. Let him help you in setting up the table before the meal time or let him help you choose the vegetables to be cooked. Give him choices for meal times but always give limited healthy options - for example, do you need a peanut butter sandwich or a cheese sandwich? Because kids at this age have a sense of independence and by offering choices and letting your son choose, he may think that the decision was his and might eat food.
