#AskTheExpert Good morning Doctory daughter 5yr is suffering from regular continuous cough for more than two weeks. We have taken Alex syrup as per doctor advice for 5 days, Still cough level has not come down. Now slight fever started along with Cough. Please help

Dr Vandan H KumarFather of a 7 yr 4 m old boy3 years agoA. Give nasal saline drops every few hourly to the child in the nasal cavity.
Try to prevent temperature variations around the child
You can go for indirect steam inhalation which will again help in decreasing both cough and cold
Continue the regular diet of the child
If there is no impxrovement in few days then meet your doctor
For fever and pain give paracetamol

Dr Sameer awadhiyaGuardian of 2 children3 years agoA. Cold most of the time is a viral illness where there could be running nose sneezing along with cough and it needs supportive care along with proper hydration . steam inhalation will also be useful in this .
cough needs to be treated with anti allergic and expectorant bronchodilators or antitussives medicine which should be used once a proper evaluation by the doctor is done and according to the type of cough its prescribed.
if any fever is there paracetamol can be given to gereduce the temperature and the dose can be repeated again after 6 hours if required .
