Q.

#AskTheExpert Dear Mam, my Son who is 2y9m had a slight fall yesterday. He has hurt his left thumb..there is slight swelling on it and though he allows us to apply pain relief cream on it he isn't using the the left hand. Do we need to check for any cracks? or will it heal on its own?

A. Any Fall injury specially head injury needs to be assessed properly . In any such case certain symptoms needs to be checked like loss of consciousness reccurrent vomiting or any abnormal moment or convulsions . Such case needs immediate medical intervention as there could be some internal injury . Otherwise application of ice locally to reduce the swelling and padin can be done along wifth some analgesic like paracetamol. Recurrent fall injury for a child should be avoided as it can lead to some chronic manifestations occasionally . Also teeth injury should be rule out in any such case which is commonly associated and can be easily missed out most of the time .

A. Hi mom There must be sprain that is why there is swelling. Cimtune to apply pain relief.. If it gets fine within 2-3 days then no need to worry. If pain still persists, swelling increase then u need to consult with your doctor for the same.
