Q.

48 hrs baby has bilirubin level at 13.2mg/DL. should the baby be kept for phototherapy?

A. As such based on the blood level you can wait. But if the doctor feels the baby needs it after physical examination you should consider beacuse sometimes it increases in the next 24 hours too

A. Treatment is recommended if bilirubin levels reach: a)15mg/dL in newborns 25-48 hours old b)18mg/dL in newborns 49-72 hours old c)20mg/dL in newborns more than 72 hours old. Please consult your doctor to find out whether phototherapy is needed.
