First time food ceremony is very essential for baby as after 6 months we have to wean him off and give semisolid food of easy digestive nature
In Maharashtra it is called as “USTAVAL”
उस्टावल in which maternal Uncle मामा feeds
first spoon of sweet rice to his cousin and the utensils used are of Silver/Gold and this ceremony is done on good day “शुभ मुहूर्त”

We call the first time food ceremony as 'Khir Chati' . It's generally done on the completion of six month. As the name says , I cooked khir for my baby. My baby's bua introduced her first food and blessed her for her good health.
