बच्चे के मुंह से पहला शब्द 'मां' सुनने पर जितनी प्रसन्नता मां को होती है उसका शब्दों में वर्णन करना असंभव है। तोतली जुबान में बच्चे की मीठी-मीठी बातें, माता-पिता के कानों में मानो अमृत घोल देती है।सभी बच्चों के भाषा संबंधी विकास की गति एकसमान न होने के कारण कुछ बच्चे देर से बोलना आरंभ करते है अथवा बहुत कम बोलते है। ऐसे में चिंता करने के बजाय यदि धैर्य तथा सूझबूझ से काम लेते हुए स्पीच थेरेपिस्ट से सलाह ले कर उसके देर से बोलने के कारणों के बारे में पता लगाया जाए तो इस समस्या को सुलझाया जा सकता है।
