The name Winifreda is of Welsh origin and it means "blessed peacemaking". The name is a combination of the old words 'wyn,' which means fair or blessed, and 'friđ,' which means peace. It is also a feminine variant of the name Winifred.

Notably, Saint Winifred was a martyr in Wales in the 7th century. Legend said that Winifred was decapitated by a prince after she spurned his advances, but was miraculously restored to life by her uncle, Saint Beuno. Afterward, she became a nun and served God.
