More About The Name Persephone

The name Persephone is of Greek origin. In Greek mythology, Persephone was the daughter of Zeus, the king of the gods, and Demeter, the goddess of agriculture and fertility. She was known as the Queen of the Underworld as well as the goddess of springtime and vegetation.

According to the myth, Hades, the god of the Underworld, abducted Persephone and took her to the Underworld to be his wife. Demeter, devastated by her daughter's disappearance, caused all fertility and vegetation to cease on Earth. Zeus eventually intervened and negotiated a deal with Hades, allowing Persephone to spend six months in the Underworld and six months on Earth. Her return to Earth marked the arrival of spring and the blossoming of flowers.
