Eurydike Name Meaning

The name Eurydike is of Greek origin. It is derived from the Greek words "eurys," meaning "wide" or "broad," and "dike," meaning "justice" or "right." Combined, Eurydike can be roughly interpreted as "wide justice" or "broad righteousness."

In Greek mythology, Eurydice was the name of a nymph, and she is most famously known as the wife of Orpheus. When Orpheus went to the Underworld to rescue Eurydice after she died, he was granted permission to bring her back to the world of the living under the condition that he would not look back at her until they both reached the surface. Unfortunately, Orpheus couldn't resist looking back to ensure she was following him, causing Eurydice to be lost forever.
