Astamurti Name Meaning

The name Astamurti has its origin in Hindu mythology and Sanskrit language. It is composed of two words: "Astam" meaning eight and "Murti" meaning forms or manifestations. Therefore, Astamurti can be translated as "one who has eight forms" or "eight incarnations."

In Hinduism, Lord Vishnu is believed to have taken various incarnations or forms called "avatars" to restore balance and righteousness in the world. The ten well-known incarnations of Lord Vishnu are Matsya (the fish), Kurma (the tortoise), Varaha (the boar), Narasimha (the lion-man), Vamana (the dwarf), Parashurama (the warrior-sage), Rama (the prince), Krishna (the divine charmer), Buddha (the enlightened one), and Kalki (the destroyer of evil at the end of time). These eight Avatars, excluding Buddha and Kalki, are sometimes referred to as the "Astamurtis."
