If your baby is a little old like 1.5 yrs onwards, keep an antiseptic/antibiotic ointment handy. It will be just fine. Just ensure that accidentally the area doesn’t get hurt or poked through clothes or hair.
This soreness, redness, bruising will come and go for sometime… for my daughter it was around 3-4 weeks . After that it was ok. She was 4yrs when I got her ears pierced. I used to clean the area with warm betadine water and twice a day and dry it completely thereafter.
Don’t change the earring or take it off yourself unless you have consulted a doctor. So in case you feel it is severe, show it to the doctor before doing anything.
If your baby is very small like in months, it’s best to follow paediatric’s advice.
