Cold most of the time is a  viral illness where there could be running nose sneezing along with cough and it needs supportive care along with proper hydration . steam inhalation will also be useful in this .
cough needs to be treated with anti allergic and expectorant bronchodilators or antitussives medicine  which should be used once a proper evaluation by the doctor is done and  according to the type of coughh its prescribed.
if any  fever is there paracetamol can be given to reduce the temperature and the dose can be repeated again after 6 hours  if required .

If The child is still suffering with cold in two months and I am going to advise you to get a check for an allergy because I think your child will be suffering with some kind of an allergy it could be due to weather change the store anything which is why the cold is quite persistent for a really long
