A. You can typically introduce ragi, oats, and curd as your baby transitions to solids, which usually happens around 6 months of age. Recommended Ages for Introduction Ragi (Finger Millet): This can be started from 6 months onwards. It is highly recommended in traditional Indian diets because it is rich in calcium and iron.Oats: These can also be introduced from 6 months onwards. They are a great source of fiber and help with healthy digestion. Curd (Yogurt): Most experts suggest introducing plain, unsweetened curd between 7 to 8 months. While cow's milk as a drink should be avoided until 1 year, small amounts of curd are easier to digest. Foods to Avoid or Limit (Under 1 Year)While most fruits and vegetables are safe when mashed or cooked soft, some should be avoided or limited for safety and health reasons: Honey: Never give honey to a baby under 12 months due to the risk of infant botulism, a rare but serious illness. Salt and Sugar: Avoid adding salt or sugar to your baby's food. Their kidneys aren't ready for salt, and sugar can lead to tooth decay.Choking Hazards: Avoid whole grapes, cherry tomatoes, and large chunks of hard raw fruits or vegetables (like raw carrots or apples). These should always be cut into very small pieces or cooked until soft. High-Nitrate Vegetables: Limit vegetables like spinach, beetroot, and celery until the baby is a bit older, as they can contain high levels of nitrates. Acidic Fruits: Fruits like oranges, lemons, and pineapples can be hard on a baby’s tummy or cause diaper rash; many parents wait until 8–10 months to introduce them.
