#AskTheExpert I am breastfeeding my 6 weeks 5 days daughter and realised it on the 2nd day that I am having chicken pox. Will those feeding affect my baby? Besides, yesterday night I helplessly had to breastfeed my baby as my baby rejected the bottle milk. I am on medication and breastfed after taking medicines. Will it affect affect my baby?

A. you can continue breast feeding your baby with proper precautions like You wear a mask to prevent spread from sneezing and coughs and maintain hand hygiene, and should be avoid feeding is vesicals are present on breast areaola. ask your doctor for safe medicine during nursing period

A. Mothers who contract chickenpox can breastfeed as normal. Any vesicles on the breast should be covered to minimise the risk of transmission from virus within vesicles.
