Janamejaya's story is narrated in the Anushasana Parva, one of the eighteen books of Mahabharata. He is renowned for performing the snake sacrifice called Sarpa Satra or Snake Sacrifice, with the intention of avenging his father's death caused by a snake bite. During this sacrifice, various stories and incidents from the Mahabharata were narrated and recited.
