A. Sunken eyes, also known as "enophthalmos," can appear in various ways. Here are some common signs and symptoms: 1. **Hollow Appearance**: The area around the eyes, especially under the lower eyelids, looks hollow or deep-set. 2. **Dark Circles**: The skin around the eyes may appear darker than usual, creating the appearance of dark circles. 3. **Thin Skin**: The skin around the eyes may look thinner and more delicate, making the eyes appear sunken. 4. **Tired Look**: The person may look tired or fatigued even if they are not, due to the hollow appearance of the eyes. Sunken eyes can be caused by various factors, including: 1. **Dehydration**: Not drinking enough water can cause the eyes to appear sunken. 2. **Lack of Sleep**: Poor sleep habits can lead to dark circles and a hollow appearance around the eyes. 3. **Aging**: As we age, the skin loses elasticity and fat, which can cause the eyes to appear sunken. 4. **Weight Loss**: Significant weight loss can lead to a reduction in fat around the eyes, causing them to appear hollow. 5. **Nutritional Deficiencies**: Lack of essential nutrients, such as vitamins and minerals, can affect the appearance of the eyes. 6. **Medical Conditions**: Certain medical conditions, such as sinus infections, allergies, or more serious issues, can cause the eyes to appear sunken. If you notice persistent sunken eyes in your child or yourself, it is essential to consult a healthcare provider to rule out any underlying medical conditions and to get appropriate advice on treatment and care.
