POOJA KOTHARIMom of a 9 yr 1 m old boy4 years agoA. Keep offering new foods. It can take 10-15 tries for children to accept and enjoy new foods.Serve your child the same foods as the rest of the family. ...Offer new foods with foods that your child already knows and likes. If your child refuses something, offer it again in a week or so.During the first year of life, babies grow really rapidly as I'm sure you're aware. They double their birth weight by four to six months of age. And then they triple it by the time they get to their first birthday. That’s a massive growth spurt. But they don't actually quadruple their birth weight until their second birthday, which means that this is actually quite a reduction of the rate of growth. Because of that, their nutritional requirements are lower, and their appetite’s reduce as well. It stays like this until puberty starts, when rapid growth picks up again. That's often why you might question why your little one, who as a baby ate everything you put in front of them, as a Toddler eats much less. It's not uncommon for Toddlers to skip meals for this reason. It’s normal for them to come to the table and just poke and prod a few things and not be interested in eating. It’s part of their self-regulation of their food intake based on what their bodies actually need. Though many young children like the same foods day after day, variety can add excitement to a meal. If you find yourself serving the same type of food over and over — maybe even because your child requested that food in the first place — it’s possible that changing things up can help. Allow your child to help you choose new foods to try. Encourage them to help with planning, shopping, and food preparation. If they help prepare the meal, they might be more excited to eat.
