Q.
My son is 2 year 2 months old. He is having cough with no chest congestion. Yesterday, Doctor given him Dexamethasone 4mg oral dose 2.25ml single time. But there is no improvement. Can I start the dose of antibiotic to him? Please suggest

ExpertDr Priyashree Mukherjee ChakrabortyPaediatrician1 Year agoA. This is a very difficult question without examining your child. I might not be able to answer properly. It totally depends on the chest examination of your child. I would suggest you continue with the same medication for two more days and still not better than you must contact back your Pediatrician. Usually takes 2 to 3 days for the medication to show its effect.

AbhayaMom of a 16 yr 2 m old boy1 Year agoA. Hello there ma’am please do not worry about it too much. Please do not self medicate the baby. Any medicine can be given only after medical consultation. This may due to either allergy or infection and some times due to climate changes and temperature variations . For cold you can give syp allegra 2.5 ml twice daily to the child. try to prevent temperature variations around the child and give nasal saline drops frequently for nasal blockage, simple cough and cold. Indirect steam is helpful. x Home remedies like Tulsi Ginger diluted with water combination (honey can be added after 1 year age)and turmeric with milk at least 2 times per day. Give warm water to drink If no improvementx in 2 or 3 days then meet your doctor paracetamol for fever and pain. Thanks and take care
